Booting up in preparation for 2021 to sustain and improve valuation services, the Invention Development Division (TAPI-IDD) participated in a valuation database demonstration with their in-house valuators Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, Mr. Caesar Angelito E. Arceo, Ms. Mechelle D. Balboa, Engr. Richelle C. Malaay, Ms. Glenda C. Rima, and Mr. Clifford Glenn D. Malaay. Mr. Eric Podlogar and Mr. Justin Murphy, both from ktMINE provided a brief background and tutorial on functionalities, controls, useful features, and the overall user interface of the ktMINE database on January 12, 2021, at 11 AM through the Zoom platform.
“It has been four years when the guidelines for standardized industry royalty rates were issued by the Industry Fairness Opinion Board, and we must admit that so many innovations have happened since then,” Atty. Decena, IDD Division Chief said.
“Given that royalty rates, industry/market information and comparables are very crucial information that is needed to measure the value of an IP, TAPI took initiative to source commercial databases that will provide vast and updated data needed to be able to provide a more accurate value to the intangible. We are happy to partner with ktMINE a well-cited database in this endeavor,” she further added.
KtMINE is an online platform that provides intellectual property data and analytics. This promising tool that fast tracks the delivery of information about the world’s IP, royalty rates, patents, license agreements, merger or acquisition transactions, and trademarks for business intelligence.
During the virtual meeting, Mr. Podlogar covered effective and efficient searching techniques to narrow down query results. With ktMINE’s quality-grade search control, users can collect precise information in less time with accurate data.
He further explained other special features within the IP valuation platform. This included accessing the information on active markets with high transaction volumes. Through ktMINE, published agreements made between entities or licensors can be viewed by users.
Best-fitting for the application of the market approach of IP valuation, the ktMINE provides an extensive database with worldwide, company, and industry-coverage, IP licensing information, covering multi-sectoral industries, and most importantly, real-time analytics and insights for structure trends for IP commercialization.
In upgrading and exploring innovative tools for IP valuation, TAPI-IDD aspires to produce more competitive valuation reports and support the country’s trajectory towards stronger intellectual property rights.
