TAPI to conduct training on patent and IP Valuation
As the patenting and licensing arm of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) will organize and conduct two-day training on “Advanced IP Valuation Training” this August 30-31, 2018.
The two-day live-in training workshop was made possible under the DOST-funded project “Support to the Commercialization of 500 DOST-Generated Technologies and Strengthening the Country’s Intellectual Property and technology Portfolios.”
Selected participants from different Research and Development Institutes (RDIs) of the DOST and some universities over the country will be trained by Mr. David Wanetick, a recognized worldwide expert with more than 20 years of experience in company and IP valuation, financial modeling, strategic planning, and negotiations.
Wanetick is currently the Managing Director of IncreMental Advantage, LLC, a valuation firm with an expertise in valuing intangible assets and emerging technologies, and also the CEO of Business Model Validation, a research firm with an expertise in assessing the investment merits of emerging companies.
“This is a breakthrough in the Philippines as we are still too underdeveloped in terms of patent and IP valuation,” Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena said. Decena is the Chief of the TAPI’s Invention Development Division.
Wanetick will discuss the modules on Valuation of Emerging Technologies and Calculating Damages Resulting from Patent Infringement in which he has a proprietary right.
This training would be certainly a valuable and insightful since our country has now uniform IP valuation despite the passage of Technology Transfer Act of 2009 (Republic Act 10055), signed in 2010.
At present, there are only three certified patent valuation analysts in the country; two of them are Decena and her supervising specialist Mr. Caezar Angelito E. Arceo, IDP who are also both members of the Fairness Opinion Board Secretariat. (Maricon R. Avila)
